Pet Advice Categories

At Eastcott Vets we are proud to offer comprehensive and cost-effective preventative healthcare plans to keep your pet as healthy as possible.

Contrary to popular belief, pet insurance and health plans are not the same thing. As a pet owner, it's important that you know the difference to ensure that you are providing the best possible health care for your pet.

What is pet insurance?

We believe that pet insurance is an important part of responsible pet ownership. Owning a pet is hugely rewarding, but it can also be expensive if they are to suffer an illness or injury.

It is important that pet owners take out a good pet insurance policy as these give your pet the best chance of making a speedy recovery, whilst also covering you for any unexpected, or ongoing medical bills.

Did you know… there are four different types of insurance covers?

  • Accident only pet insurance - covers your pet in the event of an accident (not including long-term illness cover)
  • Time limited pet insurance - covers illnesses as well as accidents for a certain time period
  • Maximum benefit pet insurance - covers illnesses and accidents up to a maximum amount for each condition with no time limit
  • Lifetime pet insurance – A complete type of pet insurance which covers accidents, injuries or illnesses for the lifetime of your pet up to maximum amount per year.

It is recommended to always read your policy documents before applying and renewing to understand the cover you will receive for your pet should you need to use pet insurance.

Why pet insurance is important

Pet insurance is an important element of pet ownership, whether they are healthy or have regular healthcare needs. Illnesses can happen during your pet’s lifetime, which may lead to unexpected bills and just like us, pets can get numerous illnesses in their lifetime including long term and complex conditions (e.g. diabetes, joint conditions, heart conditions).

Why are Pet Health for Life Plans important?

Many pet owners believe that pet insurance is all they need to safeguard their pets from harm. However, we believe a quality health plan is arguably just as important for protecting your pet's health.

A Pet Health For Life plan ensures your pet's preventative healthcare is covered, giving you greater peace of mind. However, our plans are not a replacement of pet insurance. You will still need pet insurance for illness and injury cover.

From vaccinations that protect your pet from diseases, to flea, worm and tick treatment that keeps them safe from parasites. Our Pet Health for Life plans include a range of treatments that you would be paying per visit, such as nail clipping and microchipping. We also offer discount on neutering when on our plan.

By joining and paying monthly installments, you take away the stress by spreading the cost of routine care. You also have the benefit of saving money with discounts already applied compared to paying per visit.

Having pet insurance and a Pet Health for Life Plan gives you the optimal level of protection when your pet needs it most and can help you save money for the long term.
