There are two routes to becoming qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN); either through vocational (college) training or via a higher education (university degree) qualification. Both routes lead to registration as a veterinary nurse with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).  More information can be found here

We are currently accepting applications from degree student veterinary nurses at Eastcott – here’s some more information about what a placement might look like for you at our practice.

Degree student nurses experience

We are a large multi-disciplinary hospital, that includes primary care, imaging, internal medicine, anaesthesia, dentistry, ophthalmology, orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery, neurology, and cardiology.
We have nearly 100 techs, PCAs, SVNs, and RVNs, so there are plenty of people to learn from!

At Eastcott we support all levels of SVN degree placements.

Opportunities available for student nurses and working hours

Our working hours are flexible - we can offer 4x 10-hour days, or 5x 8-hour days. It depends on what is best for the SVN.
The SVN will work in lab, wards, theatre, and reception, with additional training time with RVNs in imaging, dentistry, procedures, medicine and physio.

What we expect from our student nurses and what they can expect in return

We expect the SVN to be hard working, focused and keen to learn. They will need to be flexible.
In return, we give them a wide variety of learning opportunities and a lot of support from their Clinical Supervisor, Educational Lead, and the rest of the team.

Travel and accommodation

Parking is limited and unless you live in Swindon, you will likely need your own car.
There is a bus service nearby, but this may be difficult if the SVN is on an early start or late finish. We will be as accommodating as possible.

No accommodation is available via the practice. Some of the associates may be able to rent a room out if needed.

Are there any accessibility considerations that I might need to take into account at your practice?

The practice is across two floors, but there are two lifts available.
There is a large, well-equipped staff room that can be used.
