Our veterinary nursing manager is marking two decades of duty helping patients and clients at Eastcott Vets.

Clare Sparling started as a locum nurse at Eastcott Vets, before joining the team permanently in 2003.

She said the support from her colleagues and how patient care spearheads everything they do were main drivers behind her dedication to Eastcott.

Clare, who was previously deputy head nurse and then head nurse, said: “The reason I have stayed at Eastcott for so long is it is the best practice I have worked at due to the great team and the high standards of patient care. It is also great to work somewhere that continues to grow and improve.”

Highlights in Clare’s time at Eastcott include the vets’ move from its former Bath Road practice to the new state-of-the-art hospital at Edison Park, as well as running the Swindon half-marathon dressed in a dog suit to raise money for a good cause.

Among Clare’s qualifications are a NVQ level 2 in team leading, a NVQ level 3 in management and Edexel level 3 in assessing candidates using a range of methods, together with a range of clinical CPD.

Meanwhile, the theme for this year’s Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month (VNAM) in May is empowerment, something Clare is keen to highlight.

Clare, who returned part time to Eastcott after maternity leave, allowing her to continue to work while also having a family, added: “Empowerment means you feel confident to raise concerns and suggestions, that your opinion and skills matter and that you can make a difference and bring about changes.

“Feeling trusted at work and having a supportive team is very important.”

Outside of work, Clare enjoys exercise, especially running, as well as spending time with family and friends.
