Spring update from our charities
Mission Rabies
Our Malawi project manager, Dagmar, met this family and their dog in Blantyre last week - 2 of the dog’s puppies were showing signs of rabies and had already bitten three local children. Dagmar put the two puppies to sleep and arranged for rabies diagnostic testing at the local lab - they came back positive. The children are now receiving vital post-exposure vaccines, but it shows the need for our programme in May - vaccinating over 30,000 dogs in Blantyre city in just one month in partnership with SPCA Blantyre to launch a 3 year programme to make rabies history
Cats Protection Swindon
Cats Protection champions neutering as the only effective way to reduce the number of unwanted cats in the UK. We seek to spread the neutering message and make it easier for owners on low incomes to get their cats neutered. We are very aware that cats are often neutered too late in life when they have already produced at least one litter of kittens. Where there were only two cats, now there is suddenly a litter of up to six.

Eastcott Vets 2015 Fundraising
Each year we fundraise for a charity. There are so many charities needing support, it can be tricky choosing just one. This year we have failed to choose 1 and will be fundraising for 2!
Mission Rabies is a little known charity doing wonderful work with dogs and communities at risk. Over 99% of cases of human rabies are caused by an infected dog bite. Once symptoms of the disease develop, it is always fatal. Every year, millions of healthy dogs are inhumanely killed for fear of this deadly disease. However, this doesn't halt the spread of rabies, which causes the deaths of around 61,000 people a year – the majority of which are children under 15. Mission Rabies is working to prevent needless deaths from this devastating disease by vaccinating dogs and educating communities and vets in at risk areas. Vaccination and neutering is a focus of their work.

Our second charity is: Cats Protection - Swindon Branch
Cats Protection is the UK's leading cat welfare charity. Devoted to all things feline, they find loving homes for cats in need promote the benefits of neutering and provide a wealth of cat advice for all. The Swindon branch is run by local volunteers and fund-raises to support their work .Cats for re homing are cared for by fosterer carers in their own homes.
We do support other charities on a more informal basis.
