CPD Courses

Veterinary Dentistry CPD At Eastcott Referrals

Radiography is the key to practising good dentistry and tooth extraction is one of the most common surgical procedures that many vets will perform. Yet both are common causes of frustration!

We are offering two one day intensive practical courses which will teach you to master these essential techniques.

All courses take place at our newly opened Eastcott Referral Hospital in Swindon. These courses are designed to give each delegate hands-on experience and pass on the knowledge of the course tutor to the delegates. A state of the art lecture suite is supported by fully equipped practical labs where techniques can be practiced and refined under the supervision of the course tutor.

1.       Practical Dental Radiography – 21st February 2012 & 28th March 2012  £350.00 plus VAT

Tutored by Peter Southerden BVSc MBA DipEVDC MRCVS European Specialist in Veterinary Dentistry

Overview

You can’t practise good dentistry without dental radiography. This intensive practical course will teach you the techniques of oral and dental radiography using the latest dental x-ray machines, digital sensors and software. There will be one x-ray machine and sensor between three delegates allowing each person to take many x-rays.  By the end of the day each participant will be confident in their ability to take diagnostic dental x-rays of small animal patients.

2.       Practical Tooth Extraction – 28th February 2012 & 20th March 2012  £350.00 plus VAT

Tutored by Peter Southerden BVSc MBA DipEVDC MRCVS European Specialist in Veterinary Dentistry

Overview

The surgical extraction of teeth is a common source of frustration. This completely practical course will teach participants the correct surgical techniques to tackle the most challenging extractions including the maxillary and mandibular canines, maxillary fourth pre-molars and mandibular first molars. Each delegate will have their own cadaver, use of a modern dental unit and hand instruments. By the end of the day each participant will be able to approach the most difficult extraction with confidence.

Parvo Virus Alert

We have seen several cases of Parvo Virus in recent weeks. There was a nasty outbreak last year. Many dogs and puppies were infected and sadly within Swindon many died. Whilst we can provide intensive care support for those infected, there is no specific treatment or cure, so it is vital to ensure that your dog is vaccinated in both puppyhood and adult life. Unfortunately, it is very stable in the environment, so any animal which sheds the virus not only contaminates the environment, but poses a risk to other animals as well.
