Eastcott Vets

The Practice currently employs a total of 8 experienced full time Vets and 1 part time Vet. They bring to the team their own areas of special interest and expertise which allows us to offer such a wide range of services. All Vets choose to train regularly and attend CPD (Continuing Professional Development) courses to further their skills and keep them up to date.

Peter Southerden BVSc MBA DipEVDC MRCVS European Specialist in Veterinary Dentistry

Pete2.jpg
Director

Pete purchased the old surgeries at Eastcott Hill and Cricklade Road in 1986 having only come to Swindon as a temporary locum. He has been at the helm since and has been instrumental in the practice's pursuit of excellence in all areas. As a partner his responsibilities are numerous and ill-defined! Pete's particular clinical interest is dentistry and his studies in this area have improved the range and quality of treatment that the practice now offers (see Dentistry Referrals). Pete gained his Diploma in Veterinary Dentistry in November 2010 & is now a Diplomat of the European College of Veterinary Dentistry & is a recognised European Veterinary Specialist in Dentistry . Away from work Pete devotes much of his time to his family (5 children!) and his pets (2 dogs, 2 cats). The rest of his time is filled as a Sunday school teacher, playing tennis and honing his skills on the saxophone. DIY and gardening complete the hectic line-up.

Richard Gowshall BVetMed MRCVS

Rich1.jpg
Director

Richard joined the practice in 1991 and subsequently became a partner in 1998. With a role equally as ill-defined as his partner, Richard is more involved in the day to day management of the practice. He has a keen interest in Internal Medicine particularly Cardio respiratory disease and he is studying towards a Certificate in Veterinary Cardiology. With just the 3 children (!) Richard can play more golf than Pete and also has some spare time for running, cycling, horse racing, reading and eating lots. He has a dog, a tortoise and 5 chickens to tend to at home. Richard can now boast that he survived the wrath of Anne Robinson in BBC's the Weakest Link, not only that be he also managed to go on to win! He has named his ginger chicken Anne in memory of his triumph.

Helen graduated from Glasgow University in 2006 and came to work at Eastcott as a locum vet. Due to expansion into our new hospital we were delighted to be able to keep her and she is now a permanent member of our team. Helen has an interest in all areas of general practice but is currently studying towards her ophthalmology certificate. Despite living in Bristol she feels that the commute is: "well worth it to work with her lovely clients and colleagues". Her hobbies include triathlon but her passion is cycling and she was pleased to raise money for the Guide Dogs by cycling from John O'Groats to Lands end, unsupported, with her boyfriend Steve (who did all the map reading).

Parvo Virus Alert

We have seen several cases of Parvo Virus in recent weeks. There was a nasty outbreak last year. Many dogs and puppies were infected and sadly within Swindon many died. Whilst we can provide intensive care support for those infected, there is no specific treatment or cure, so it is vital to ensure that your dog is vaccinated in both puppyhood and adult life. Unfortunately, it is very stable in the environment, so any animal which sheds the virus not only contaminates the environment, but poses a risk to other animals as well.
